Student Life

As an AEI student, you are part of the larger University of Oregon campus and with your student ID have access to all campus resources. From the newly renovated Recreation Center with climbing wall, to the Museum of Art, there is much to experience and explore. Our campus is host to students from over 100 countries and all walks of Americans. The AEI is able to take full advantage of its surroundings, creating a supportive home base for students.


The American English Institute hosts it's own activities throughout each term and a volunteer program that brings students together to build international understanding through service.


Child Care on Campus

The Univeristy of Oregon provides several resources for students with children. Be sure to apply early as spaces tend to fill up fast and are limited based on the child's age.

AEI students may live in residence halls, with homestay families, or in private housing throughout the Eugene/Springfield area.

Life in Eugene

Eugene, Oregon is a medium-size city with a of population of about 350,000 and is famous for its natural beauty and clean environment.

Eugene is a city of active, friendly people, and there is always something new to explore. It has some characteristics of a much bigger city, such as art galleries, world-class sporting events, museums, a strong music scene, as well as shopping malls. However, it also has a home-town feeling, with street markets and tree-lined streets.

Eugene is well located with only an hour and a half drive west to the Pacific Ocean, or east to the mountains, ski areas, and high desert.

The lifestyle and clothing in Eugene are very informal—an attitude that suits its multicultural student community very well.
