This is a 2-hour course required for lower level students in their first term. Upper level students may take this class as part of their 18 hours or may be referred to the class for remedial work.

At the lower levels, this course provides students with an overview of phonics and strategies for developing phonemic and phonics awareness as a means to improve reading, spelling, and pronunciation.

At the intermediate/upper levels, students will identify personal phonemic and phonic challenges and develop strategies to improve accuracy in pronunciation and spelling.
