Classroom Tutoring Program

Conversation Partners also work as tutors in Speaking & Listening and elective classes. Tutors help students to practice discussions and conversations in pairs or small groups. Tutors attend class once a week, and they participate in activities designed by the teacher both in person and remotely.

Instructors may request tutors to join their classrooms on a weekly basis. A few examples of classes tutors have joined in the past include:

  • Speaking and Listening
  • Reading and Writing
  • Pronunciation
  • Elective classes

During remote sessions, tutors will join Zoom meetings and facilitate small group discussions through breakout rooms.

There are many resources available for students and their conversation partner tutors in the Tutoring Services Office. Normally, students would be able to drop by Agate Room 127 for games, puzzles, textbooks, computers, and more, however during this period, in-person resources are limited to the Computer Lab in Agate 129. Tutors and students are still encouraged to take advantage of our other remote resources, such as this list of conversation topics from the OR TESOL Website: In addition, some of the most popular applications students have used in the past during remote meetings are Kahoot!, Jeopardy, & Quizlet.
