CLOTHING

Casual lifestyle. Oregon is very informal. Oregonians typically choose comfort over fashion. It is common to see University students in jeans and t-shirts when they go to classes, and even professors dress informally. For activities, Eugenians usually dress very casually. At formal concerts some people dress very nicely, but most people wear casual dress pants or skirts.

During your stay in Oregon, the summer weather should be warm, with cool evenings. You should bring clothes that will keep you cool in the daytime, and a light jacket or sweater to wear in the evening if it is cool. Shorts, skirts, or pants are the most popular summer time clothing in Eugene, and are appropriate to wear while attending classes and meetings at the University. You may want to bring one more formal outfit for special occasions or professional meetings.

In winter months, you can expect cooler temperatures and rain. Dressing in layers with sweaters, jackets, and a rain coat will keep you comfortable.

Active lifestyle. While in Eugene you will do a lot of walking. Therefore, it is very important that you pack comfortable shoes. The UO campus is more than one kilometer across, and you will have to walk to classes, lunch, and instructors' offices.

Biking is also very popular. Eugenians typically enjoy athletic activities outside, and therefore you may be asked to go for a walk or hike. You will enjoy these activities much more if you are able to walk comfortably.
