Academic English for International Students (AEIS) Course Descriptions


 

OVERVIEW

Following is a list of courses offered through the American English for International Students (AEIS) Program.

You can look at current Academic English and UO course offerings in the UO Schedule of Classes. Once you take the placement test and have your results, you can register through DuckWeb.

AEIS 103

Comprehending Oral Academic Discourse (4 credits)
A course to develop listening comprehension strategies for classroom-based communication.

 

AEIS 105

Producing Oral Academic Discourse (4 credits)
A course to familiarize students with oral academic communication and to provide them with speaking experience in academic settings.

 

AEIS 107

Comprehending Written Academic Text (4 credits)
A course to familiarize students with effective strategies for academic reading. (In Fall term one section of this course is reserved for Pre-Business majors who are also taking BA101.)

 

AEIS 110

Written Discourse I (4 credits)
A course in conventions of expository essay writing with attention to effective organization and appropriate language usage.

 

AEIS 111

Written Discourse II (4 credits)
An intermediate writing course emphasizing expository writing, critical analysis and response to academic text.

 

AEIS 112

Written Discourse III (4 credits)
An advanced writing course to develop competence in responding to academic text in various modes: critical analysis, argumentation and reporting research.
